Evan's journal

The expedition last week was a resounding success, although we did not find the frog we were looking for. We did, however, find a frog with a bright red head that is about the coolest thing we have ever seen. So that was good. The best part is we had absolutely no idea that this frog even existed, much less that it happened to be living where we wound up. This place was, by the way, the worst place on earth for mosquitos. Typically the tropics aren't all that bad for biting flies because their breeding season is spread out over an entire year rather than 3 weeks at the beginning of the summer. However, due to recent rains and very low-lying swamp forest, the mosquitos were having some happy times, which happened to coincide directly with our arrival. At one point it was so bad that you could not even stop walking otherwise the mosquitos would essentially cover every square inch of your body, as opposed to when walking, when they only would cover about 50% of your square inches. But, despite the major blood loss and risk for disease, I would say that finding a frog this utterly sweet is well worth it. This will be a short post because I am not only busy but sleepy, a horrible combination. There should be a new post forthcoming tonight or tomorrow with a pictorial demonstration of how to make crude but utterly delicious chocolate from scratch (ok well I didn't grow the trees).
